Dedree “Dee” Butler was born in St. Louis, MO where she was raised by a strong single mother who believed in the pursuit of excellence via higher education. She volunteered with the St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation, a non-profit agency that supports the youth of St. Louis. She worked closely with Earl Wilson, philanthropist. She traveled across the country to attend college at “the Mecca” Howard University. It was there that she continued her service to the community, now in Washington, DC. She became a member of Alpha Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and committed to a lifetime and career of service. Thereafter, she returned to Missouri where she accepted a position as Special Events Coordinator to the President of the University of the Missouri System, Dr. Elson Floyd and served as Special Assistant to his wife, Mrs. Carmento Floyd—her sorority sister. She attended the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and immediately fell in love with Las Vegas, Nevada. She started her career in private practice and primarily focused on family law and insurance defense. For the past ten years, she has been an attorney with the Clark County Public Defender’s Office. She served her first two years as a defense attorney for children in the juvenile delinquency division of family court and now serves as the Team Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit. She is a mother of three beautiful children, Dawn Skye (8), Desiree (6), and Dominic (9 months). She is married to a Navy Veteran who supports her dream of becoming a family court judge.
