J. Scott MacDonald is a quasi-native of Nevada having moved to Las Vegas with his family in 1966 at the age of 8. He graduated from Western High School in 1975, then attended UNLV for 1 semester before transferring to BYU. In 1976, he suspended his education to serve a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Guatemala where he became proficient in the Spanish Language.
