Jessica K. Peterson, Esq., is a junior partner at the Flangas Dalacas Law Group. She began her legal career in Michigan after graduating cum laude from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2000. She’s first foray into the legal world was as an extern for the Honorable Charles Johnson of the 57th District Court for Emmet County, Michigan. As an extern, She would often prepare memo’s for Judge Johnson to enable him to make decisions from the bench. In that role, She was required to read both the Plaintiff’s and Defendant’s Briefs, analyze the law and provide a well reasoned decision to Judge Johnson on how she would rule if she were tasked with making the decision. This initial position is what led She to the decision that she ultimately wanted to be a Judge. After that externship, She knew that to be a Judge she would have to acquire knowledge in numerous different areas of the law and so sought out firms where she could do so. Her first position was with Plunkett & Cooney in its Petoskey, Michigan office as an intern from 2000 to 2001. As an intern she worked with three different attorneys and was able to work on governmental immunity cases, divorce cases, medical malpractice cases, construction cases, and probate cases. From 2001 to 2004, She worked for the Kitch, Drutchas, Wagner, Denardis and Valittuti Law Firm in Detroit, Michigan where she was able to again work with three different attorneys including one of the managing partners. As an associate at Kitch, She had varied practice areas including medical malpractice defense, premises liability defense, regulatory compliance, insurance defense, and asbestos litigation. She left the Kitch firm in December 2004, and moved back to Northern Michigan where she was a solo practitioner and concentrated her practice in Family Law and Misdemeanor Criminal Law. She remained in solo practice for approximately two years during which time she also served as the Zoning Administrator for Banks Township. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in April of 2007, and took a job with the Flangas McMillan Law Group, a general practice Firm. She has represented clients in multiple areas of the law including landlord-tenant, probate, business, personal injury, and family law. She has also been a Court Appointed Arbitrator since 2016, rendering over 30 decisions. To date the representation she is most proud of was the work that she did in representing an individual who was defamed for no other reason than maliciousness on the part of the Defendant. In that case, She set precedent obtaining a preliminary injunction against speech. The case was then tried before a jury, wherein Gus Flangas and She obtained a jury verdict in excess of four million dollars. The case was appealed and She wrote the Brief to the Supreme Court, which unanimously upheld the jury verdict. She is a current Member of and the Past President of the North Las Vegas Rotary Club. She also formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Rape Crisis Center and also served as a Truancy Diversion Judge for three years. Since her original externship, She has always taken great pride in her ability to see both sides of an issue and her ability to be fair and equitable in attempting to achieve the best results for her clients. If elected, She is committed to insuring that all individuals who come before her understand her decisions and that each of her decisions is well reasoned, fair, and based on the law. She is admitted to all Courts in the State of Nevada and is a member of the State Bar of Nevada and the State Bar of Michigan.
