Gayle Nathan is a former District Court Judge who sat on the Family Court bench from 2011-2014. She has been practicing law since 1988. She started her career as a public defender, but soon found herself practicing primarily family law. She has represented thousands of people through the years in both contested and uncontested cases and has taken hundreds of cases to trial over the years. As a former Family Court Judge, she was very involved in creating and working on programs to make the court system easier for litigants to maneuver. She wrote and produced the video, "Putting Your Best Foot Forward" which explains to litigants how to make the most of their court date. She devoted months of her time working with the Self Help Center to edit the forms to make them more consumer friendly, legally current and gender neutral. She administered the Boyd Law School Mediation program which brought supervised law students together with litigants who wished to mediate a resolution to their divorce cases, and worked with the law students on finalizing the cases when a resolution was reached. This program helped reduce the court's very heavy case load and provided invaluable experience to the law students. For going on five years now she has taught a class once a month to pro se litigants on how to prepare their case for trial through the Legal Aid Society of Southern Nevada. It is ultimately helpful to the judges, who end up having litigants prepared for trial. She has been a pro tem Hearing Master in Child Support for over five years; a pro tem Justice of the Peace in North Las Vegas for over five years; a Family Court Judge from 2011-2014 and currently acts as a Short Trial Judge, hearing personal injury cases with a jury, from time to time. Her two children, Maxine and Samantha, were educated in the Clark County School District. Maxine is attending College in California and Samantha is a sophomore at UNLV, who also works part time at her mother's law firm. She has two dogs and two cats in Las Vegas, and two cats in California.
