Carli Kierny has dedicated her career to protecting the constitutional rights of the indigent. In law school, she tried several cases as a clerk with the Cook County Homicide Task Force and worked on the exoneration of a man who was wrongfully convicted as a student with the Chicago-Kent Law Clinic. She first worked as a public defender in Champaign County, trying dozens of misdemeanor and felony cases to jury verdict. She then moved to Nevada and has spent the last ten years with the Clark County Public Defender’s Office, including five years on the elite Sexual Assault Team. Carli currently serves as the public defender representative on the Countywide Criminal Justice Coordination Committee dedicated to improving probation outcomes. Carli also serves as a volunteer with Safenest’s PS 417 program, a partnership with LVMPD that aims to provide domestic violence survivors with resources to prevent lethal domestic violence incidents. She is the proud mother of two great kids and two mischievous dogs.
