Bold. Tough. Honest. This candidate has not submitted a statement.

Belinda T. Harris lives by a mantra that “your home should be a place of pride, justice and love.” She is a native born Las Vegan and cares deeply about the Las Vegas Valley and its communities. She spent her childhood in North Las Vegas, a community she continues to embrace. She is a proud graduate of the Clark County public education school system. During her early education she attended Myrtle Tate for elementary school and Ed Von Tobel for middle school. In 1993, the Clark County School District started a new magnet program centered on performing arts and international studies, Las Vegas Academy for International Studies, Visual and Performing Arts. She leaped at the opportunity to be a part of the first freshman class and studied Dance as her major. During her time at Las Vegas Academy, She developed a passion for public service and serving the community. She especially loved serving in student government leadership roles, volunteering on community service projects, and participating in other youth organizations. After high school, she boldly moved across the country to Washington D.C., to attend Howard University for her undergraduate studies. There she continued to pursue a commitment of service to her university and to the local community. She served in the Undergraduate Student Assembly and ensured the individual organizations on campus had the necessary funding they needed to promote productive change on campus and in the Washington, D.C. area. She later was accepted and attended American University Washington College of Law. She served as the Student Bar Association President of her law school and was selected as an intern in the highly competitive internship program at the Public Defender’s Office of Washington D.C. After graduation She worked for the Clark County School District in a role where she ensured children with disabilities received the services and education to which they were entitled and deserved. She found the work to be challenging but also rewarding as it supported some of the most vulnerable members of underserved communities. She later continued the pursuit of her legal career and was offered a position in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as an Assistant Defender at the Defender Association of Philadelphia. She served as counsel for hundreds of clients and chaired over fifty trials. Although a tough environment, She thrived and reveled being in the courtroom. She loves the court environment and being a part of the judiciary process. Although, she established a successful legal career in Philadelphia, she felt in her heart it was time to return the place that held her heart. She moved back to Nevada to work in the Clark County Public Defender’s Office and she returned to North Las Vegas, to the same community where she grew up. At the Clark County Public Defender’s Office, She is currently a Chief Deputy Public Defender and has continued to defend the constitution and ensure the rights of all individuals are protected. Advocacy and service are consistent themes in her life from her early years to her adulthood as an attorney. She’s always maintained a passion about being a conduit for effective progress and change. She remains fervent about the justice system and is not jaded in the belief that change is not possible.
