Statement
My experience and training as Hearing Master make me the best choice. This candidate has not submitted a statement.

Amy Mastin has spent 23 years serving the families of Clark County. Nearly seven years ago, she was appointed by the District Court Judges to be a Family Court Hearing Master, to serve at their discretion and under the supervision of the Family Court Presiding Judge. She was originally assigned to Clark County's civil domestic violence court. For more than six years she heard upwards of 8,000 domestic violence cases per year in a County with one of the highest domestic homicide rates in the country. In her six years with the domestic violence court there was growth from having one full time Hearing Master to having three. In addition to hearing domestic violence cases, she presided over guardianship cases, discovery cases and is currently assigned to child support establishment and enforcement Court. She was recently interviewed with an appointed Family Court Judge, who confirmed she was on the bench before attending mandatory courses at the National Judicial College, "winging it" for 5 months before taking a single class on how to be a Judge. Amy attended the classes "how to identify and eliminate implicit bias", "best practices with self-represented litigants", "how to formulate and communicate a decision", "how to rule on evidence", "courtroom civility and security", and more over her six years as a Hearing Master. Prior to being appointed Hearing Master, she was in private practice for 10 years, focused exclusively on Family Law cases: divorce, custody, guardianship, adoption. Her name was one of a handful provided to Foster Parents ready to finalize the adoption of their foster children. Her role as a "Foster Parent adoption attorney" was among her favorite during her career. Prior to private practice, she was a Deputy District Attorney in the juvenile dependency division, prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases and protecting the most vulnerable among us. Her entire career has been committed to families and children. Her legal career started in 1996 working as a Family Court law clerk for now-retired Family Court Judge Gerald Hardcastle. Personally, she has been an unmarried mother, she has been divorced, she have a stepson, has a good relationship with the father of her children and a challenging one with her stepson's mother. She has lived the gamut of Family Court tragedies - so to speak - and, so, has learned to navigate them personally as well as professionally.
